A great compilation of songs from this vibes heavy group. I knew nothing of this group until I picked up 2 LP's years back, I will get anything with a prominent vibraphone sound on it and was pleasantly surprised by the LP's. Not a funky or even jazzy group as the name may suggest but an almost pop jazz hybrid with some catchy melody throughout. Some of the songs sound a bit playful and some have a great "nightime" feel, with a constant heavy vibe sound going on. I love this disc and play it constantly.

Pizzicato Five - "Hi Guys ! Let Me Teach You"

This release from 1991 says it was a TV soundtrack, I believe geared towards school children but have never seen it nor know anything about it, when it came out the music was what was important anyway so never looked far beyond that. This release shows Pizzicato Five could take any type of music, give it their own touch and come out on top. From Shadows style guitar instrumentals to Perrey/Kingsley moog, this release also takes the same exact song in some cases and re-does it in a completely different style on a later track. The sound on some of these songs seems to be clearly aimed at children and the results are beautiful. It's a difficult record to explain, how do you put into words something so special ??? The music will easily explain what I can't.

Quite simply the best thing to be released by this amazing group. Pizzicato Five were not only the greatest group to come out of Japan they stood head and shoulders above nearly everyone else. In their long career they touched on every musical style imagineable, straight jazz, dance, lounge, rock, electronica you name it but they did it with an extraordinary style and sophistication that was unrivaled. Their finest moment is presented here, released in 1989 (this is a 1995 reissue with slight track alteration) it was something you could just not stop listening to and nearly 20 years later it is just as good. They exist no more but left behind a catalog that is quite simply astonishing.
The title of this blog is taken from a song on this release.
